If you’re looking for a weekend away from the city then it can’t get better than a trip to La Martina in San Pablo del Lago!
3 days and 2 nights in contact with nature, with cozy lodging and nearby activities will leave you recharged and wanting to come back!
1h30 min away from the city of Quito, La Martina Country House awaits. A fully equipped house with 4 guest bedrooms, housing up to 10 people, is located in the skirts of Mount Cusin.
Nonetheless, the comfortable and homey setting of the house, becomes secondary once you walk up to its outdoor deck, to find a breathtaking view of San Pablo Lake and Imbabura Volcano displayed in front of you like a painting.
What to do Around
The house is perfectly located to plan day trips through Imbabura, with San Pablo Lake (great for water sports such as skiing, or for dining with a lakefront view) 5 minutes away, Otavalo market (the country’s most beloved artisanal fair) 25 minutes away, and Peguche Waterfall (sacred to the indigenous communities living in the area) 20 min away.
However, the house also invites you stay in and enjoy card games by the fireplace, relax in the deck with a wine and a view, play Corn Hole in the beautifully tended gardens, or simply share a delicious meal prepared by Miguel Angel and Fabiola, the local gatekeepers who will prepare a mouthwatering locro (famous potato based local soup) or an exquisite breakfast with warm bread and freshly squeezed orange juice from San Pablo’s market. Besides, a wood-fired oven and a BBQ are available if you’re up for homemade pizzas or a delicious barbeque.
Nights at La Martina are usually nights full of board games, cheese and wines or story time by the fireplace. Hosts Juan Carlos and Ana Maria enjoy coming to San Pablo with their family and friends, because it has always been a space for sharing- disconnected from the buzz of the city.
PS: Fabiola and Miguel Angel will take care of cleaning services and lunch prep, but the guest must provide them with money to buy the ingredients for the meals (if you’d like to taste the locro or the breakfast mentioned above, just let them know and they know exactly where to get the ingredients). The house does not include food.
If you decide to go on a day trip, coordinate your lunch or dinner time with Fabiola and Miguel Angel and they will be waiting for you with a delicious meal upon your arrival.
Room distribution: 1 master bedroom (1 king bed, with bathroom), 1 bedroom in the lower floor (1 queen bed, with bathroom), 2 family bedrooms (3 single beds, each), with shared bathrooms, 1 social bathroom.
Cost per night: $225
Not entirely disconnected: The house offers wifi.
