The Guayasamín Foundation is a non-profit organization, created in 1976 by the Master Oswaldo Guayasamín. Its objective is to promote the works and humanist thinking of its founder and has become a cultural and artistic component of great importance in Ecuador and the Latin American region.
He obtained his international prestige for the awards he received in the biennials of Barcelona, Sao Paulo and Mexico and the exhibitions he made in the most important contemporary art museums in the world.
Realizing that her works were scattered around the world and very few of her works remained in her country, her greatest concern was that they stayed where she was born and lived most of her life.
That is why he decided to create the Guayasamín Foundation with the support of his children, with the idea of donating all his paintings to this institution and that this remains as the country’s cultural heritage.
The donation he made was mainly from the collection «The Age of Wrath», which contains his most valued works as well as some works of «La Edad de la Ternura» or «While Viva Siempre Recuerdo». It also included its collections of Pre-Columbian Art (vessels, plates, stamps and other objects of the Ecuadorian aboriginal cultures) and Colonial Art (paintings, sculptures, furniture, among others) to be exhibited permanently.
